Here we go. August 2023 Legions Imperalis will be released. AT or AI scale, 8ish mm. This will be what the 5th version. Its not 40K no other races. This is Horus Heresy. Hot marine on marine action. The last one was 20 plus years ago, Armageddon. GW abandoned the Epic players within 6ish years, discontinuing the Armageddon support. Specialist Games went away. 40K was the future!
As with any system discontinued, players vanish and hardcore players only last for so long. This never occurred with Epic. I started playing when I was 11-12. And now I am dam near 50. Communities popped up. UK tourney scene never went away. The greater Boston group held numbers and monthly gaming ever since. The Aussies had a group.
In reality GW's ability to supply miniatures never mattered. There were so many set bought and left in the box, you could get new models 18 years later. The FW buildings were available for years. Only since about 2017 did they become increasingly rare to non-existent.
The loss of a minis created a golden age. There was Ben. He tried to buy Epic from GW, made copies of GW minis, and had some of the 1st 3D printed minis. Next came the age of Otterware. His stuff was amazing! Otter was C&Ded. The Aussies had China forge or fight club. 30K stuff beyond belief. They got C&Ded. The was a German guy who screwed you more than your wife would. He got banned serval times. Others have popped up.
Then printers became cheap as chips. My 1st printer was 3k. My last resin printer was 100 bucks. the files were hard to find. You would trade or buy them. Now they are everywhere. One dude count 567 30K files available for free. You can print anything GW ever came up with.
I do not know what Legions will look like. I have not seen the rules or any game play. Net Epic Armageddon is solid, rules and lists. 30k for Armageddon is pretty good. Net Epic Gold has been around forever. Its solid. Imperious Dominatus is pretty good. Aussie 30k is pretty good.
GW is a miniatures company
