Back out on the Road part VI

Back out again. Crowne Plaza with double point plus 3k a night. The light here sucks. My travel lamp got place on my painting table at home. So here I sit with crappy light. But I did not forget anything after so long not being out.

I have the Cardinal's guard with me. I plan on the capes, pants and jackets.

A few more for the EIC.

Traitor Guard armor to finish up the week. A bunch to be base coated in AP wolf grey. Those will get washed in MIG Africa Korps.

The rest will get as close to finished as possible. Bases, final wash, flock and sealing all get done at home.

Anno Domini 1666 Furniture

The game is still not here yet. In transit it says. More like lost. Anyways the game is palyed 2D. The original demo I got with Doc was 3D. I have been printing out buildings and the B&P terrain can cross over. Yet half the scenarios are inside a structure. There is printed tables and chairs. I don't want 2D in my 3D. Some D&D doll house furniture type stuff.

None of it is painted to the high standards. Tabletop standard is more than good enough.

HMGS Fall In 2023 update

Announcing Fall In! 2023

Greetings to all historical miniatures gamers, game masters, historians, vendors, artists, and others who are members of our great gaming community. I am pleased to announce that Fall In! 2023 planning is underway.

The convention takes place Friday – Sunday, November 3 – 5, at the Wyndham Lancaster Resort and Convention Center (2300 Lincoln Highway ELancaster, PA 17602-1114). The theme this year is “America: Rise to World Power, 1898 to Present.” It’s the final part of our combined “America at War” Convention themes for the year.

The hotel room block will open for reservations starting at 0900 EDT on Monday, July 3, 2023. You can either click on the link HMGS - FALL IN - ATTENDEES to make an online reservation, call the Wyndham central reservation number at (800) 407-9832 or contact the Wyndham Lancaster hotel reservation desk directly at (877) 999-3223 or the general hotel number at (717) 299-5500. For all reservations, please use the following information to get the HMGS Fall In! Convention Rate:

The 2023 HMGS convention room rates are:

  • $169.00 per room, per night, single or double occupancy
  • $179.00 per room, per night, triple or quad occupancy
  • Plus: 11% tax

Additional information to help with your Fall In! hotel reservation can be found on the Fall In! web page: Fall In!® - Historical Miniatures Gaming Society, Inc. - HMGS and select the  icon.

You will need to indicate your specific requirements (dates, room type, number of occupants, etc.) and any flexibility you may have regarding room type (e.g., two double beds vs two queen beds). If you are not successful in getting a room at the HMGS rate using one method, try another method. (It is often hard to get a room online due to limited listings on the website.) There are other hotels in the local area that attendees are welcome to contact, but HMGS has reserved a room block and secured an HMGS rate only at the Wyndham Lancaster Resort.

As we continue planning your show, we will release further information, including submission dates for game masters, information packets for vendors, War College presentation requests, tournament information, and details on many other special events for the convention.

Start making plans now to attend Fall In! 2023 at the Wyndham Lancaster Resort November  3 – 5. We are working to bring you the best in historical miniatures wargaming!

Other minis

A bunch of minis finished. An Epic 3D printed greater demon, El Capitan, 3D printed Mrs Bonacieux, 3D printed Kitty Soft Paws, Black Scorpion Highway woman.

I tried to stay true to El Capitan. The white on the shoulders were not in the series. The dark grey pants made the mini way too dark. Alatriste is a good guy in a bad way. I did not want him to be so dark.

Anno Domini 1666 more minis

Its still not here yet. Web says it remains in transit. And I am sitting at home waiting for it. Amazon, FedEx guy shows up with boxes ass deep to a tall Indian only for my wife.

Flying Cock Award Time

Lucky or unluck me. I am out of cycle. I will miss NEEAT. Out of cycle cause I am on Saturday to Wednesday. Then I will be out of cycle again. This time its the holiday guy. That dick takes off every week around a holiday. His sweet candy ass will be working Turkey day, Xmas, and New Years.

I did get more miniS. Puss in Boots, Kitty soft paws, female pirates, musketeers, and EIC dudes. One print farm must have too many dudes painting with contrast!

When I am home it is easier to finish minis. I have all my STUFF, proper lighting, my glasses. Those that were half way done or almost done on the road are polished off quickly.

Tomorrow morning I will base and seal these 4. Then smash thru the tanks.
In the afternoon I will finish up 4 more.

Shit ton of trees. Like I need more trees?

Bought another collection part IV

Yet another 27 bucks sold. The total is 540. I never thought it would sell for so much!

I spent the last two week dragging the wife parents all over the west. I had to go out to Billings for the LBHA annual conference. The main goal is selling dad's collection and meeting new buyers. We sold about 650 in the book room. The majority was artwork.
I was able to line up two buyers for all the reference and primary source material. We will meet to review the material and set a price in 3 Sundays.

Anno Domini 1666 Cardinal's Men part I

I have always been a Dumas fan. When I was a little boy I failed 2nd. I refused to read. It was not because I could read read. I would not. Dad some how figured it out that I could. That I was being an asshole. Dad told me some stories. We saw part of a Musketeer movie on WPIX out of NYC at grandma's house. Dad wasn't paying for cable. Then he gave me his copy of Dumas. Dad said it was his book from when he was a kid. I was not to destroy it. If I wanted to know the story I could read it.

By the end of the summer I read all of Dumas' books. I started with Walter Scott after that. When I returned to repeat 2nd the teacher called and asked mom who taught me to read.

Now as an adult with a miniature addiction and a Dumas fanboy. I cannot wait to get Dumas' characters on the tabletop. I love the Spanish Musketeer story too. The series of Alatriste and the BBC's Musketeers has got me crazied to paint them up. I am dreaming of scenarios with the opening action in the Three Musketeers!

My copy of Swords is not here yet. I still waiting, looking out the window. I did get the Cardinal's Men and Guards while at Little Wars. There were 5 of the Red Guard squaring off in the second action in the Three Musketeers. In the 3rd, a street riot/fight. I will need a fair number of Red Guard!

I don't like the BBC's version of them. Nor any of the movies versions. The Osprey book has an excellent example. I will model mine after the artwork there.

The 1666 Cardinal Richelieu is spectacular. I will copy the art work on my palette. I had hoped for an older Cardinal. In the book the Musketeers make fun of his bent back. When you 1st meet him in the book he is not so.

1st up is a double batch of the Red guard. The are primed AP bone. Then washed with AP Dark tone. All their clothing is Black and browns.
Foundry 68. British Red  Coatis my red.

Terrain Boards, Cons and the Future part XVII

I am about done with the two tiles that link up to the hills sections. I cannot continue with the hill sections until the city wall is set. The right hill tile is done on the lower part with buildings. I am not interest in re-doing that tile. I have 2 choices. One cut up the wall to match the curve of the hill or cut out the hill for the wall to run through.

Once the wall's path was lined out and sharpie down. I gots me a new fancy saw, kept it flat it and destroyed a tile.
Those square grid supports keep the board from wrapping and add strength. When I chopped into the hill. You can see I cut into them. The whole corner of the tile became unstable.
I knew I would need to fill it in or cover it. A 1mm scrap plastic chunk was chosen. I traced the chopped out hill for the cover. It is glued to the square grid and the lip of the flat lower part of the tile.
The walls and towers were glued down and all together. I hope it will all add to stablize the tile's corner. Next step will be to fill in where the hill is not. Then lay 3mm plastic card over that. In the end there will be a flat surface where the hill is not. finally roads and buildings create an upper city.
