On the Road part X

        This week I am in a Hilton Garden. And the kid is with me. Mom's school started this week. Hers is next week. Early American history and Fraction review for the kid. Catholic school for her ass. Public is doing a shitter job than normal.

        Which mean I need to share the desk space with her. Someone is always trying to steal my painting time! The desk lamp at the Hilton Garden is the best so far. No real need for my travel lamp. 

        I have only Tercios with me this week. I need to finish the last of them up. We shall see what can get done with the kids breaking balls. 

        It wasn't the kid. I had a chiller with a dip leak. 2-3 dips an hour. Customer says we should fix it. Yeah Ok. Then it blows up. The chiller is pissin water every where. The shut off valve just spins. As I stand in a growing lake, water is bouncing off me into the Xray generator, 35KV. Emergency Offed the tool. Customer is like, its going to be right back up right? Water is drip off his ass too! Uhhh Huh. No parts. It is the city water side, you own it. The Union shows up a day later.

        The short is jack all got done.

Anno Domini

        I played at Little Wars two years ago. "The Doc" running the demo played in my RF&F game. Originally I got a By Fire and Sword demo by Doc. Which I bought in on. Then later he was running a game and no one showed. He is a wick cool, funny ass dude. So I played.

        What got my sort of interested in 1666 was I won. It was quick, easy to learn, flowed well. More importantly I had been watching Las aventuras del capitan Alatriste. That series is great. The dude playing Diego Alatriste is perfect. I never read the books, don't care to. The series is the shit! I played Alatriste's fraction. 

        Then when I got started with B&P. I was back painting 28mm minis and 1666 is the same time period. B&P is limited in scope and minis. I included some 1666, Black Scorpion, and 3D minis into B&P. That got me thinking I could have minis and terrain play a dual role. 1666 start to creep into my head.

        I am done with kickstarter. But...... 1666 had a kickstarter. The minis are fantastic! Well most are. The new minis are hot. I had been looking for a used set. Then I saw the kickstarter. I had to go in. The original, the new set and some extras.

Secret Weapon  "The Tiles" part I

            At one point in time Secret Weapon made plastic 12" x 12" interlocking gaming surface. It was called terrain scape. There were 3 or 4 different themes. I think they kickstarter it. 

            Long ago at one of my first AdeptiCons, secret weapon was there. They would give 15% military discount. I wanted the rolling hills kit for a 6 x 4 table. None in stock, but they would ship. And I got one. 

            Then years go by, Living in Argentine goes by, Returning to the states goes by, Getting into the new house goes by. When searching for something else I found my order. Then thought it would be cool to have two sets. 

            They are not made any more. Secret Weapon has no stock. The molds were stolen from Secret Weapon. Ebay is a waste land. Well yesterday I found a second set, in MY ROOM. I must of had the same idea long ago. The second set is the medium size, 16 tiles. I think not only will I need glasses for painting soon. I may be in serious need of memory pills!  

        Crack is a powerful drug. It is nothing compared to resin crack. Today I got another 7 tiles off of eBay.

            The new first idea was to do an Afghan looking board out of two sets. Then I was thinking of just doing one Afghan board and one green fields board. Now I think I will be doing ALL as green fields. Most of the Historics I will be playing green fields are fine. Epic it doesn't matter. Warmaster is happy in green fields. So green fields it is.

Blood and Plunder "Marineros"

         I am home. It is nice to be back at the painting table. The travel kit is great but its not the same with all your kit around you. Spanish Marineros join the crew.

Regimental Fire & Fury "Buying up minis to finish up" part III

        No parts at a labor only customer. I am home. Unbelievable. Yet it is time to get shit done. 

        The Union Cavalry are up. Most the horses have been removed from there bases. Riders separated into piles on weapon type. 

        And then out of bases. Between BFaS and RF&F I have based or rebased 200 cavalry stands this year. That is unbelievable.

        So far I have 26 more Union Cavalry and 4 horse holders with 28 mounts left to go.

     A lot of other side stuff is happening. Selling terrain, cleaning out, eBay

        Trees rebased and made not to look so much like plastic.

        The docks have been 3D printed and primed

        Two more FW buildings done. One is original the other someone copied. I got the copy when Dave bought a lot of a dude at Cold Wars. I am still toren between the greenish-yellow windows or a blackish tinted window. There is one more original that is 20% done. Its in the works.

        Well that is that. Cruel Seas is gone. Everything as one lot. It is a good game, but what do I give up to play it? Epic? Warmaster? And I always had to host. Which was twice as hard as I am never home long enough to stain a toilet. 

        Sails of Glory is down to one ship left. Then that is gone!

Terrain boards, Con, & the Future part X

 

            I have not been happy with the way the board has been turning out. It does not look like what I wanted. The rivers came out great. The first 4 tiles, no. I have those 4 to fix and 2 more that have not been started.

            I am also thinking of taking two of the hill sections and creating a beach. Then some how pour sea water an inch or so deep. No idea how I would do waves? It would be a Blood &Plunder purpose board. Yet giving up two of the 8 sections I have would not make the board single purpose or limit the games playable on it.

            Then there is the idea of a lipped edge. That keeps the board as multi use.

Then while sleeping I realized I am dummy. Big Dummy! Hill sections are right angles. When putting two hill sections together you get a peninsula. Great endless beach. Which means now I am creating sections to terminate the beach.

Lucky for me years ago the Rick asked GW how they did the battle boards. I saved the article. Now I am going about creating sections. Except I did not follow the directions. I used what scrap I had. Which turned into a waste of time. as each layer was glued and wait as it set. Then it was not level. So pull it up and go buy new foam.

The rocks, are lizard rocks. They are held in place with white and hot glue. It is bulked out with scrap foam, wall paste, and sculpty stuff.

        UPDATE;  All of the above happened before my travel kicked off. This section is now in the trash. The idea was great. The application and technique was crap.

                            I am left with the two river sections and a beach. All this will go on hold for a little                                             longer. I may sell the river sections and pressure wash the flock off the others. Then                                     restart.
