10mm Macedonian Hypaspists

        Yes Newline Designs has a 10mm line. They run sales from time to time. When they have a sale, they are the best deal around. The casts are not especially clean. You will need to clip and sand the bases. There is not so much flash, but there are casting vent lines still attached.

       The first group of the 3 I am working through. These will be the silver shields. Transfers have been ordered.

10mm Macedonians Old Glory part III

       I finish the last two units of Phalangites. That finishes off two packs of Old Glory Macedonain Phalanx. The Blue helmet dudes are silver shields and the red have the Macedonian star.

All 3 together.

All are on Shogun bases and movement trays.

       Next up on the paint table are Gauls and Hypaspists from Magister.

3rd Samnite war

Finally Up for Pre order. I am not paying 45 bucks. Roberts is good not great. Nope. I will continue to wait. By summer it will be 29 bucks. or maybe a fiver on ABEbooks.

Warmaster Ancients "Introducing a New Player" part II

        On the Job wargaming. We are both on call today. No wives or kids, middle of the work week. This is Jeremy's 3rd game. I sent him the warmaster selector link and gave him 1k to pick a force.  We will play the Oceanside Property scenario.

Jeremy's 

 Initially he beat me to both bridges.

 His general failed. I was able to cross the bridge by the objective first. My skirmishers rushed ahead to cover the advance.

 Both were holding as rear guards.

 I was able to security the Objective. The legion deployed to protect the unit on the objective.

 The Allied Legion was crumbling on the rear guard.

 The legion took a beating shielding the Objective as the Triari moved up

 The Cavalry covered the the far right flank. Jeremy almost got around the back end.

In the end, Jeremy broke my army. I won due to the Objective.

10mm Macedonians Old Glory & Newline Designs part II

        Finished the 1st of 3 Phalangites. These have the Macedonian purple shield.

        The spears are a small pain. The dude all have pre drilled hands. I had primed them all dearest yellow. But....when you stick them in the paint is scraped off. So you end up repainting them. Next time no primer.

        Also they are just steel rods. No butt spike or spear tip. They will break off before you bend them. Spear tips would be nice. You would have holes in your hands placing them.

       

       The second group of Phalangites. These will be a silver shield group. Of course all the spears need painting. Then I need to wash them, get them mounted, flock, and sealed. Maybe by Friday?

        I thought I ran out of spears. There is no way I am dumb enough to order dudes without spears. Or not enough spears. Most of tonight was spent digging in the ancients box. I found them.
        The 1st "Hit" counter for combat is in development. I will most likely cast them up. The other Idea is to build battle field trophy things for counters. They would not be cast-able.

       The 3rd group of Phalangites are right behind. Next week I guess. Or Saturday. I think I am free, free Saturday. Everyone has shit to do, but me and I am not involved in their shit.

         I had two bags, plus a baggie from someone's collection. There are a ton of them. Not the best casts, or I am spoiled by the last few baggies of dudes. The flash was bad enough I actual removed it. The base for the dudes were all uneven and lopsided. They took forever to clean and get mounted to sticks.

        This is the second half of dudes on sticks. Tonight when the prime can is warmed up, they will get primed. Then washed tomorrow. 

10mm Macedonians and Carthaginians

        The Carths are from Magister Militia. The shield bosses are over sized. It makes shield stickers or hand painting designs problematic. Other than that, they are excellent casts.  I have T-shirt wearers and armored spearman. Citizen body or levies.

Numidians

        From one baggie I got 2 units of Numidian skirmishers. I painted only 6 in the traditional white tunics. If levied or as mercs they would have had access to the Cartho markets and trade. White would not have been the only cloth available. Being soldiers for hire they would spend their coin the same as we spend ours today.

         All the Macs are Old Glory dudes. They still come one strips. I had to remove One dude from each strip to fit Phalanx on the short edge (20 x 40). One baggie will get you a unit and a half with a bunch of floaters. Nicely each dudes hands are per drilled for pointy sticks. But you have to buy the pointy sticks separately.

         Four strips will fill out a 20 x 40mm base. All are primed white and then washed black. Whatever black is cheapest and easier to get a hold of. Normally I use Army Painter dark tone. This time I have GW's black wash. They get a good soaking. The wash help you see detail and increasing the speed at which I can block in the paint. 

         4 are glued to a stick for speed painting and and not every dude needs painting. They will be tightly packed together. The front rank's back will never be seen. As the back rank's front will never be seen. These dudes will be painted <50%.

         I had to pull from one stick and mount them to a base. No sense in painting every stick only to discover what I thought would be un seen is visible.

I realized I would have to paint and flock the strips they stand on. It would be overly difficult the do it mounted.

 More of the back is visible than initially thought.

 Those on the sticks will be adjusted per the lessons learned.

 The next 6 bases and shields are for Weekend.
