Regimental Fire and Fury rebasing part IV

 

        I was out part of last week and gone these 3 day before the holiday weekend. Some Traitor guard tanks got blocked in on the road. I got my points and that was about it. The meetings were generated by me this time as I declared 5 million in useable capital equipment on a dying customer. 

        Found a few more Cav that need rebasing.

    

        As far as I got while home 17 completely rebased. 26 glued down and sealed. They need flocking and a final matte seal. Everything will have to wait. I am going back to sea.

Net Epic Armageddon Sallies Vs Eldar 3000pts

        Kal has seen the Tau enough over the years. He played the Traitor Guard in the spin up and at Fall In. They are out. I thought about bring the World Eaters. Eldar with no FF for Eaters is rough. Maybe the Mars boys or Nids?

        My Sallies have sat in the foam. Never been out. The project never finished. I painted enough INF. The armor and support craft are waiting. Its time to pull them. I hate drops, so I will be dropping 4 large detachments. 2 termies to tellie and 2 Thawks to run the bus route.

        As I looked over the list, Sallies lack range and take a hit in FF. I know they have meltas in FF and that the 4 to 5 move was to balance the melta. Or put it in line with speeder meltas. They proved to be dice whores and as casualty heavy as the fluff.

        I am 350 in, on 4 totes of Warmaster. Chaos, Undead, Vikings, Bretonnians, Elves, Dwarfs, and Orks. The Undead and Bretonnians army is huge. The viking and Orks are sub 800 points. The Elves and Dwarfs full armies. The Chaos sold day one.

        And if you have not seen, GW porked the mold with the infantry. Serval minis have weird support zones. The nerds who are now master mold makers and machinists and general experts on well...... Experts dammit.

        What I know in 2004 I worked for Fancu and Method Machine tools. At that time the tools we serviced had the ability to cut molds within 0.0004".  9.2mm is 0.3755". I can only guess at the increased capabilities of machining tools in the years since. If those tools could do it then, I don't know why they cannot now?

        These are the last of them. All the dudes from all the collections that need to be RF&F re-based. I think I will have as many union to sell off as I have for my collection. I am keeping all CAV, ART, CSA & dismounted.

        The grey box is all Iron Brigade dudes. I will need 200 more bases.

        Well bend over. 250 for a box set. You will need at least 2 to play. Support boxes are 50. 9 rhinos for 45 for every mechanized marine detachment. 

Marines are based of 40mm circles

        The scatter bits are pretty cool. 75 bucks. The large terrain box is 175. No price for the city tiles.

        Small update. The AA used at Fall In was not painted. The base size was wrong too. They are too big. I have ordered proper bases and finished the Hydras. Plus touched up objective markers.

        The 4 minis I bought at Fall In have been cleaned, primed, and washed. I have purchased minis from this line before. These where very poorly done. Massive mold lines! Last time I buy from them.

        Group number 4 is taking a swim.

        Group number 2 in route for poly sealing. I don't dip. I brush on. The poly makes the little dudes survive conventions. Players are not very nice when they grab a unit of 14 bases to move. Chipped dudes suck, repainting chipped dudes is bullshit.

After a week of Teams and bullshitting, I have 142 based.

Terrain Boards, Cons and the Future part XX

 

        I got bounced out of rotation by Fall In. They tried sending me to Cali and Ireland. I said eat it, I am off. The phone calls started Saturday. Sunday the meetings started. Monday continued with death by Teams. No said hi, No one asked a question. I think brains drained from heads all weekend. So with nothing to do really. I got to work.

        Walls got glued down. Defense line and roads got pulled up. Hill section cut out. 

        It is a longer process building up layers of foam. I have to wait over night for each layer's glue to dry. Foam sheets are much cleaner than spray foam. The spray foam shank last time.

        Over a year ago I scored some 15mm painted ACW. I wanted the Cavalry from the lot. The plan was to cherry pick it, rebase for RF&F, and sell it. It was a goal for this year. Nothing happened. Chicago Matt scored 6 bases of CAV and 12 of INF for me in a Midwest HMGS yard sale type thingy. Same story. Cherry pick, rebase and sell. 

        Well shit, now I have to do it. All of it is taking up space. It is easy to do and today is endless meeting about nothing with no one asking me jack all. One must be productive while one's ass is flattened by Teams meetings.

        Out of the Matt's score. I will get 8 Union and 10 CSA INF stands. Plus 3 Union Cav and 4 CSA stands. 2 Artillery stands also. That is 2 small regiments I can sell.

        The process is easy enough. Dudes go in hot water. Base get pulled off after a few hours. Those that wish to stay on the base, take a longer bath. Then you clean up the individual's base, sand it flat, straighten his ass out and glue to the proper size. Its all a waiting game for the bath and drying from the bath and drying glue.

        The next group is drying from the bath. The third group is swimming.

HMGS' Fall In 2023

 

        Fall In is over. Chicago Matt came in and stayed with us. We only tried to feed him peanuts like 6 times. Tom made it out. We all had dinner with him Thursday night. Tom has not been able to come for 5 years. Dad was still with us then. We would go to dinner the night before every Cold Wars and Fall In. Then straight to the bar to tell lies. Sad to think how much the event has changed and the mates that no long show up.

        The biggest and best Fall In in a long time. Numbers were good with above avg games on Thursday and Friday. The parking lot wasn't full on Saturday. You could find a spot with little to no effort. So HMGS is not back to the good old days yet. At least things are moving in the right direction, numbers wise.

        The HOST was the HOST. Bar service slow and they appeared not to care. The restaurant opened at 8?? There was no beer cart girl. The food was ok, service sucked. No one planned to staff the food locations. Beer was not served at the food locations throughout the day. Some rooms had no heat. The rest of the HOST was in good shape.

        I only bought 3 minis from the vendors. Then I bought everything from a dude selling Warmaster. He had two others pick thru all he had. One got the Dark Elves and another the Keslev. He wanted to unload and sort of knew what he had. I think I could have gotten all of it for 600. I paid 300 for a Chaos army, Elves, Dwarfs, large Undead, 800-1000 points of orks, and large Bretonnian army.

        He had Epic the next day. Mostly junk. Again people were cherry picking whatever they didn't have. The value was in the whole thing. Parted out into detachments I saw looking over a shoulder about 250-300.

        I got a free chessex case. Which was traded for beers.

        Peter Panzeri warrior, author ran Crazy Horse at the Rose Bud. It was easy to pick up and played fast. Crook and Crazy Horse always started with a 6 for command points. The command points also was their initiative number. The other command elements rolled a D6 for initiative. Then you worked your way down 6 to 1. If you had a 4 you were active 4 times rotating through the intitiative levels. I got Crazy Horse killed by Crook in turn 7.

        Pete agreed to lecture and run a game for the Little Big Horn Associates' 2024 conference in Gettysburg. Pete's new book will be out. Get yourself a signed copy. You must be a member to attend. Custer's approach to Gettysburg is the Thursday tour. Friday's tour is Custer chasing CSA after Gettysburg. Staurday is lecture day.

        One last minute drop put us at 13 players for Epic. A new guy found and joined the FB Epic Times. Jon took 1st with Necrons, Dave 2nd with Necrons, Coach had 3rd with Dark Eldar, Eric just cheated down to 4th with speed freaks. Eric play on the championship table.

        I took Traitor Guard. Friday night I got two pre tourney pick up games. I played Chicago Matt's Word bearers. Lost 2-0 TSNP and DTF. I played Shawn's knights. Lost 2-0 TSNP and DTF. Tourney day I sat round two. My kid was going to be the 14th player. Mom dropped her for playing on the phone in the middle of the night. Game one was against Chris' speed freaks. Lost 2-0 TSPN and DTF. 

        In round 3 I played, I can't remember. Won 2-0 TSNP and DTF. In that game I deployed everything I could as garrison. Almost the whole army.

        I gave up 2 points all tourney, got 2 points and took 12th place.

        The Vraks traitor guard list is a mess. The list and QRF is half done. Stuff is missing thru out. I am thinking of taking it over to finish it or pump in some favor.

        Sunday is a dead day at Fall In. Matt and I played Moderns. Cant remember the name of the rules. They are set up as a tourney rule set. You select core groups and upgrade them within a set number of points. Then roll for scenario. It is fast and easy to pick up.
