Warmaster Weekend Demo game and a new player developed

 

          The Wifi scores again. She found a dude at work that is interested in Wargaming. She set up the "man date" for a demo game. I had her ask Torro what period of history he was interested in. He said ancients and cowboys. Well I don't do cowboys, but I can support ancients. 

          This is the part that blew me away. Torro had looked up table top wargaming and ancients prior to the play date. Do you know he hit upon warmaster straight out of the gate. He watch 5 videos. The videos develop an interest or base of knowledge in Warmaster fantasy. I started the explanation, he asked if it was warmaster. I couldn't believe such shit would come out of his mouth. 

         Warmaster, both versions, have become wicked popular as of late. I couldn't say why. We need to become more of a shit talking community. That general shit talking will find an easy 5 new players a year and 5 more guys that have a long lost gaming history!

        Torro has never played a table top war game. We played Roman Civil War, with matching armies. I took out the skirmishing rules and we played on a 4' x 3' board. We concentrated on order issue-ing, formations/brigades, and combat.

        Double score Torro is down for playing again. We set a date of the 14th for a 2nd game.

ACW artifacts.

         ACW has been back burnered for forever. I started ACW too late. Too late for dad to be a part of it. He is gone now. RF&F maybe even could have gotten him to play. He loved to move the minis around and bullshitting with the guys.

        All the uniform and unit questions he could have answered from memory. Dad knew it all. The battlefield guides would hide when he was on site. They all would show up for his lectures. Ye old Historian from his Navy days.

        Dad lives on through his collection and his books. I don't think he ever thought in a million years a Custer would be reading his book about Custer.

 A mini ball and a repeating rifle cartridge. They would punch a big nasty hole in you. I think they are 45cal.

A distant relative. He fought in the PA cavalry. This is what is left of his equipment. Dad says his mother threw out the blouse after removing the buttons. I was one generation away from seeing it and to think it was still around in the 1960s.

This is all that is left from his personal equipment.

The last two weeks

 

        The last few weeks have been a shit show. The shit show of life. Now that the show has moved on to another poor soul. Time for an update. These boys went with me then got abandoned when death came.

Last week I returned to the office finished them up. They all came home and got washed and sealed. I did not have time to flock them. The Iron Brigade took their place next in line to be finished up.

Also the Old Glory order came through. I needed Cavalry and Artillery. Hopefully only one more order will be needed. Once everything is painted and rebased, I will order the missing components.

Road Warrior "prep-ing for next week"

 

         The bases arrived just in time. I am half thru the second bag of 100 Inf bases that I had. Just about all the Union Inf that needed repainting have been removed from the old bases, glued to new bases, and packed to go. I have half the South soaking for removal.

         35 bases and a bravel Col came out of the mess above. These 35 will be top priority next week. 

         The Iron Brigade is on sticks. Along with Horse Holders.

         A bunch of armor for the Sallies is packed up also.

          Continue with the Union RF&F effort. Some new metal and some that needed touch ups

           The 20mm cultist have been traveling with me all year. I got to the point where there was little to do last week. The cultist got the attention 

         I can not count. 8 bases, some how I only took 7 bases with me for the tactical detachment. 4 bases of assault no jump pack dudes got done, and 4 Vinnies.

        I was also able to block in the colors for World Eaters Raptors and Sallie Termies got blocked in.

The bulk order for ACW bases from Litko showed up.

The XVIIIth legion

          Part X is brought to you from the depths of the company office. I am stuck here all month. This should make painting miniatures easy. As long as nothing happens, I paint the day away.

          Assault squad. No jump packs, 30K style.

          Vindicators. No flames

        There are a number of dudes that will require repainting. Some that need to be stripped. A few new dudes to kit out the armies. I have started with the Union. Why? I am on the road this month and the Union's color palette is smaller, more limited, than the South's.

Paints

         I am using mostly Foundry paints. Out of all the paints on the market, they are the best. They are not easy to get. I ordered a set way back in 2011. They have been all over the world with me. GW and Model Color do not like to fly. Never had that problem with Foundry. Never had one go bad or dry out. Never had to replace one! Just like all the other paints, I drop in 3 22 cal airgun pellets as shakers. 

         You could buy the ACW range of paints from Foundry. The set contains all you would ever want in the Foundry 3 color system. I did not, nor am I using those colors. The ones I have are the ones I am using. I would recommend that you purchase the entire range of skin tones. 

          Consider yourself warned! Foundry paints are not cheap. They are 3ish pounds stirling a pot without shipping. You can purchase the pots as singles. You can also purchase the pots from any of the HMGS Cons. 

         None of the miniatures are getting the 28mm experience. That would take a life time to paint them. This is a speed painting exercise. No shading. No highlight. No dry brushing. The plan is to block in the colors and dip them in Army painter strong tone.

         Why strong tone? The dudes have been on campaign, marching endlessly, camping outside. Pretty sure their wasn't a laundry service. I want dirty looking. Plus the dip does 50% of the work for you. The dip also protects them. The game will always be hosted inhouse or at a Con. They will take a beating!

        Why 124C North American Flesh for a skin tone? The boys live outside all day, every day. The sun will bake them. And they would be a dirty bunch of dudes as they eat dust on the march.

Repainted

         The boys here were painted like some one iced a cake with craft paint. No need to strip them. An old tooth brush took off 90%. A bath in the ultra sonic did the rest.

         Old glory miniatures. White primer. Always white primer!

 

         Because I am at work, in the office. There is no dipping or flocking. All that will happen when I get home on Saturday.
