Sudan Project part I

                                                                     Sudan project.
Sadly this project was initially started in 2012. Two posts were made over the Holiday break, 20mm Small Wars, and The Last Minis of 2012. 12 stands of CCW armed Dervishes and 6 stands of rifle armed Dervishes. I had a basic idea of what I wanted, and little direction or focus. I was just painting shit to paint shit with no real goal.

                                                                     Project Goals
20mm plastics, even know the Perry bros have amazing minis in 28mm. 20mm is cheaper and faster to paint. Plus small enough not to weight you down in the details of each mini. There will be a shit ton to paint.  Still the plastics have enough character to keep me interested painting them.
Originally (2012) I want the Dervish minis to allow me to cover Afghan and Sudan. Now I don't think it will work out so well.
Today (2016), I will paint up enough Dervish and Egyptian minis to cover the action in the Sudan.  I am guessing about 450 to 600 minis. (72 done) British and India unit will pull double duty as originally planned. I have not purchased all the brits yet!
To maintain focus, I only took with me 3 time periods. I did fail to bring the brass joby to connect up my air brush to the pumps hose. Priming these fuckers could be trouble some. As shit in Argentina is not widely available.

                                                                        Painting
My British will not look exactly historically accurate. They will appear more hollywood and perverted by my mind's picture of what they looked like. Still I chose this scheme for the first group. Also I will use those I have painted to represent whatever unit was at the battle. I am not painting each respective unit.
My blog is more an endless record of what I used on which unit. In the case that I need to add to or replace some units
Started off running thru some of the blues and tans for the British.
From the top of the wet pallet going left to right
         The tans left to right.
Same blues in order dried in sun light.

Foundry skin range is pretty amazing. Best set I ever bought. I will be using 126C for the dervish skin tone.

The locals will be on 60 x 30mm bases. The colonial powers 60 x 20mm bases. I am hoping that the locals have the horde appearance and the colonials a more dressed look.

Argentine WIP II

First WIP and completed minis in Argentina. I no longer have a gaming room or special little place to paint. When we get residency and a house then maybe I will get a room again. Until then I am blessed with a limited focus. I only came with 15mm ACW, 20mm Sudan, and 20mm Modern.
All of these dudes need to be dipped, flocked, and sealed. I have to or want to wait for a non rainy day to dip them. I can not have that smelly shit drying inside for 24hrs. The flock, I have to go steal some sand. To seal them I have to get the connection thingy for the air brush! Which I lost or completely failed to fucking bring with me.

First out of the gate 20mm Modern dudes.
Pre-primed before I left. Ordered over a year ago. I had some fear painting the exhaust from the rocket. So they sat with the rest of the order unpainted.
3 more African foot soldiers and a group of Arab women.
         Some Afghan civilians
2 Non-combatant and 2 armed "Dickers." Taliban leaders and some muscle.
           T.V. crews
American in local clothes and 1 old ball LT

Argentina WIP I

Some odd ball Epic pieces that made it into one of the pre primed boxes. 2 BA assault bikes and 2 earth shakers.

A bunch of IEDs and weapon caches. Super cool markers and objective things, from SandS. Another purchase from years ago buried deep in the mountain that I never ever got around to. They were cleaned, based and pre primed in the states before leaving. Bases are FoW and 30mm circles. I did not bring any flock with me. So one day I will have to jog down to the beach and secure some sand!

Early Retirement.

I am now retired and living in Argentina. Most of my stuff is in storage, awaiting residence and household goods move. Baggage limits on weight does not support the movement of lead soldiers. On the first trip down no soldiers came.
When I went back to get the dog, the last of my daughters toys came and soldiers. I was able to get all the unpainted 20mm modern and all the unpainted 15mm ACW.
TSA was very interested in my soldiers and paints. Even back in the day, when I could bring the paints onboard, they were interested. This time with lines longer than those at the VA. They were opening every box and calling fuckers over to inspect my paint jobs.
Customs in Argentina wanted to see them, but lost focus in looking at pictures from disney. They never looked at my cigars, bottles of scotch, air brush shit, or the 15 pairs of sneakers i brought to sell.

This was the first time I traveled with my paints as checked baggage. (I did take paints with me to Iraq. They travel with the advance team.) This time they were going under, in the bags with cloths. I packed them in food saver bag and vacuum sealed them. I was worried that them would dry out or start to separate during the flight.
The paints all traveled without incident. The vacuum bags did lose the vacuum. The army painter dips, 2 cans, held the vacuum. Those I were very worried would leak. There is no cleaning that shit up.

December WIP part II

          20mm dudes flocked
My CVS special SUV. Go there 2.99 a truck.

December Terrain WIP part I

More smaller pieces for the Desert table.

Still plugging away. There is a lot of little BS all over these. The number of colors on each is way above avg. And Yellow is being its normal transparent bitchy self.
