Samurai Daimyo rule set part I

Daimyo by Osprey Games has freely dumped the rule set on the net. It was out on the samurai wargaming facebook page. Of course I downloaded it and never took a look. I never dreamed it would be a complete proof. They dropped 111 pages of rules.

If I can download them for free, why would I buy it?

If there is no tourney scene, why would I buy the book?

As a ceiler dweller gamer, what do I care about official rules?

I am confused. I cannot wrap my head around producing books for profit and then giving it away. WTF? Who is going to buy it now? Why would you buy the fuckin thing? Osprey spammed the market share with a free copy. Someone's ass has to be getting fired over this shit!

Rules

Dice determine quality

The rules steal Force on Force's concept of troop quality rolling different sided dice. Delta operators roll a D20 with success on 4+. While muck racking dirty faced shit eaters roll a D6, success on 4+. No matter what weapon platform you toss around your proficiency is the same.

Where in Daimyo a +5 is good.

Basing

It doesn't matter. As long as everything you have is based the same. Like me my Sammies are based for Warmaster. No rebasing or trays or sabots are required. If we are being true, you are hosting Samurai. No mate is going to paint Hojo or Oda just to play only you and your Takeda. It don't matter!

Osprey states Cavalry as lees wide and deeper. So if you based your Warmaster Sammy Cav properly as a kool aid drinker your mint.

Armies of the time

Daimyo has a double organization to reflect how Samurai fought. There are units. In which everyone is the same or the majority is the same. The other being Sonao reflecting all the different combined armies of an individual reporting to duty with his men.

They do tell a fractured lie. A daimyo would call up his mates. Those mates would bring their boys. Those mates were not interested in giving away their mates. Especially the lower rung mates. As they needed these clown to do labor. If you allowed said dudes to go off and fight with another leader dude. That leader dude would use them as collectors of flying arrows. As he would not waste his labor force.

Osprey is this regard does a good job of handling this concept out side of a skirmish rule set.

Page 11

Here the rotational volley fire of Teppo armed Ashigaru appears again. This is never happened. You will see it mentioned all the time. It is a lie that has become impossible to stamp out. No academic scholar will tell you such a thing is true. Even in Japan!

Orders

You pull orders or activations like Bolt Action. But the orders are placed like 2nd edition Epic or modern by Fire and Sword. The issuing of orders to Sonae is different. This section will take a little study.

You get 3 tokens per Sonae. You must take one of each. Then it doesn't matter what you take. This forms your order pool.

You pull tokens until a token for a Sonae comes up. Then those tokens are applied to that Sonae. Everything is resolved. Then you draw for the next and next until the Daimyo token is pulled and your done. This creates a fog of war and limitation on your ability to order elements on the field.

Port Royal "The beginnings of a Warband" part II

I cannot say where this mini came from. He fits the bill. Foundry 126 series skipping B for skin. Foundry Base Sand A only with GW bone to light the pants.

English Sea Dogs. I think they were the forlorn hope English Civil War. ECW was 1642 and Port Royal 1692. Weapons would not have changed, nor clothing. I am sure someone would have had dad's kit kicking about.

The Jackets are done with Foundry 4 series, in the foundry method. With the exception that I went back with 4A as a shade to blend the three together.

I ran with Prussian light blue for the coats or Model color Cavalry brown. The blue was lighten with GW bone and the Cavalry with GW Imperial Fists yellow. Both make the ochre jackets pop.

One plays with all males. There were females. One should expect that they would survive. ANd the females of port royal were carnivorous. The Madam in the red looks as if she has killed before!!! The one in the orange and pink is a 25mm not 28mm. She fits as a girl or smaller woman.

            A random Indian tossed in.

Colonial Spanish Barracks part III

A new 3D print, Colonial out post. Kind of looks like the one pictured. Sort of.

It has a pretty huge footprint. 6 tiles 3ft by 2ft. I could never store it in that size. The build does split in two. I traced the the actual footprint on the tiles. I can store it in two halves and the tiles stacked as singles.
I will roll out some cobblestones for the front of the building. The side and back will be flocked.

The dude was Lowes rattle canned brick red. Then that cheapo airbrush came out again.

Two colors have been layered in. A burnt yellow with two passes, followed by a bone white single pass. That bone white was kept to the center. All to give that was painted once when it was built look.

All the windows and wood trim was done in AP speed paint Satchel brown.  Gravelord for the stone work. Yeah I know, speed paint. The roof tiles were washed in Foundry 126B African Flesh.

The detail in between the brick was done with AK US Army vehicle wash. After coating the shit out of it. I wiped up the raised surfaces.

Painting the insides, air brush quicky. I hate the insides. Doll house trauma.

A side project

The whole thing is primed Lowes rattle can satin brick.

My colonial building, or front of the Alamo, with 30 minutes of effort.

I think the front details were all wood. I cannot find my reference. Soooo

Extra Extra Samurai play testers wanted

 Daimyo

What is Daimyo? Daimyo is a mass battle wargame set during Japan’s Sengoku Jidai era, to be published by Osprey as part of their “blue book” wargaming series. In Daimyo, players will command entire armies to wargame major battles such as Kawanakajima or Sekigahara. The ruleset has been in development for several years now, and has been internally playtested, however we're now seeking wargamers from outside our community to provide feedback on the rulebook and how it plays.

If you are interested in providing feedback either on the rulebook or playtesting it, please read below: This Google Drive link contains the rulebook and all resources, including 3D printable components: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1ucpRd150igEG1tRvbuQ3240-vpLExuz4?usp=drive_link

Feedback on balance and rule comprehension would be especially valuable. Questions such as: • Are the various clans and units balanced, in your opinion? • Are there any imbalances you’ve noticed? • Are the rules easy to read and understand? • Which parts do you find confusing? To give feedback, please: 1. Submit your feedback on our Feedback Form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScRb5IyTZvXp5orZyqa1mXo_IhBAekq5ZGwPbypNb6l2r7Obw/viewform?usp=sharing&ouid=100403617671523872182

Muskets and Tomahawks bought an army

Yeah yeah yeah. Another one. F&IW army in 28mm both sides. It was more than I would normally pay per dude. I had a better than rough idea of how well they were painted. The line British are lovely and better than expected. The Americans were beyond anything I expected. The Indians, I do not believe were painted be the same person. The highlights and technique are vastly different.

The Great Sell Off part VI

Since my father died, I am left to sell his collection. I know jack all about his collection, the value, or how to sell it. I don't know the market. Over the years he told me this and that. I did not pay close attention or memorize what he said. Now I sit here trying to sort it all out and get Mom the most out of it's sale.

In an effort to save my family from the circus the Great Sell Off. I don't want my kid or my wife to have to deal with the massive amount of soldiers I have. They know a few mates in passing. They don't know what anything is, it's value, or where to find buyers. I will be selling off everything I have never used, sat in a box since the NY days, and those treasures I snatched up, opened the box, and they remain in that same box.

Sold 2500 bucks in Custer books. One pamphlet for 500.

59 more 28mm Romans are gone. The last of the Epic Imperial-alley terrain shit is gone. I sold my Nid army

Blood and Plunder "Rope Bridges" part II

All primed Lowes rattle can flat black. Then I fell down the rabbit hole of returning my air brushes to service. They have sat for years unused. After 3 days I tossed one. The other came back to life right after I ordered a cheapo from Amazon. What is my time worth? Was it wasteful to pitch it?

The cheapo that help getting shit done

Everything Airbrushed, no paint brush. All took about an hour.

After that AP dark tone dip. The dip is the greatest protector against chips. I see these taking a beating over the years. No one wants to repaint terrain.
