SAGA Age of Hannibal 1st game

             SAGA gaming has been waiting in the wings. Originally I planned on playing at AdeptiCon this year. I had pulled out all the dudes I painted way back in the NY days. Those romans were from Black Tree Designs. I painted them up for  3 units of Auxiliaries

            Kal was nice enough to give me a demo Saturday. We played 6 points. I played the Republican Romans with a normal Warlord Consul. I had 1 unit or mounted warriors, 4 units of warriors, one guard. The the two red shield carrying warriors I split into 3. 5/5/6 strong. Kal had 1 chariots, Elephant, guards plus 2, and 3 groups of warriors.

            We played the scenario where one player sets up with the opponent deploying everything, followed by the 1st player finishing the deployment. I started off with a heavy left flank deployment. Kal then set up centered off my units. The rest of my army deployed inline to the right.

            With 8 SAGA dice I was able to line shift right and send the mount warriors in. That is the true test of an ancients rule set. Alexander would shift his line, line up off center. Knowing you can recreate something that was actually done is special. 

            You study your army board. Then when it is time to play. It is like you have never seen it before. You roll your SAGA dice and place them with a plan. Then when it is time to active units. That initial plan with dice combos is wicked complex. 

            In the end I killed 22 and Kal 18. I think he throw me a bone. Kal is very good with the Successor board. I know, I was more aggressive play style. (I watched the SAGA tourney at Fall In) Next time I will be more catty
