Sammy time 10mm plastic Samurai from Atlantic

The summer is over. Its Sammy time. Not Samuel Jackson beer.

Atlantic is releasing a box set for their rule set Heiho. You get the rules and minis for 150 delivered. Of course I jumped on it. I plan to paint Samurai while sleeping down the road from a Takeda castle.

            Everything is on Warmaster basing.

And look at that. Sammy Cav based long wise. Not on the short edge.

The plastic used is semi flexible. You should expect to lose a few long spear and bow guys. They are well secured in the sprue.

HEIHO rule book is ok print wise. I found no editing issues. The print and color pictures have a different texture. There are multiple conceptual errors. Most are academic. The author is not a Japanese history major or well read. But the book is not to educate you on Samurai Warfare. Go get a library card for that.
This is a historical rule set. No points for armies are given. If you are looking for that, best find another rule set.
The cool part is the Korean war is included. The sad part is limited army construction and only 2 scenarios. You will need another reference for troop numbers and battle maps. Which can get expensive fast, expect to pay 130 plus for semi academic. A cheaper option is the pike and shot samurai book by Warlord games.
The rules are you go, I go with command points. It is designed for playing with a grid system. I would use Warmaster movement, not a grid.
Command points are determined by ass kicking, Te or brigades on the field, and something else. You can read the book. Command points function in three ways. One to activate, add to the dice, and bid for initiative. You can also pay a command point to interrupt the other dudes turn. Or if the other dude is dumb enough to show his rear or flank when passing a unit, you can interrupt.
Combat is a little strange. You engage as normal. Then select your formation with a counter. The formation differences give bonus attack dice and effects for Ashigaru armament. Your bases are stacked up in column. The position of bases effect the fight. After all that business you have shooting attacks if you got them. This is opposed. If the attacker does not score more, the attack bounces. When you score more the defender gives up a bonus die. If you don't bounce, round 1 is fought with the stand in front determining how you fight. As long as no one is below 2 stands. Round 2 is fought with the stand rotating in order front to back. How you stack your stands is important!
That is pretty much it. I like the shooting bouncing a charge. I love the command points idea for C&C. Junior commanders come with their own problems. Reflecting how these individuals actual behaved. Combat reflects the weapon technology and the way they fought combined arms style.

While prepping for the Japan trip. I broke into the Castle Art's Sammies. I have a shit ton still. No minis or terrain will ever be needed.
I don't have shit to do today. Castle walls.

The Great Sell Off part VIII

Since my father died, I am left to sell his collection. I know jack all about his collection, the value, or how to sell it. I don't know the market. Over the years he told me this and that. I did not pay close attention or memorize what he said. Now I sit here trying to sort it all out and get Mom the most out of it's sale.
In an effort to save my family from the circus the Great Sell Off. I don't want my kid or my wife to have to deal with the massive amount of soldiers I have. They know a few mates in passing. They don't know what anything is, it's value, or where to find buyers. I will be selling off everything I have never used, sat in a box since the NY days, and those treasures I snatched up, opened the box, and they remain in that same box.

2 more Custer books gone. 1 Detachment of armor.

My Aunt Died. Another massive amount of stuff to unload. I must strongly recommend selling all your stuff before dying. I am now an expert in gold and silver, Old lady dishes and collectables. Another strong recommendation, unless living off your wealth, with the exception of IRAs, put all your money into buffalos and gold eagles. It is so much easier to hand someone a stack than to deal with estate law.

Epic Ork Buildings

The original test piece is all the way in the back. 2 new ones are in the works. The same initial build up. Except this time I re-enforced the insides with Si paste.

New forests in the Little Wars TV fashion.

The Great Sell Off part VII

I have put up all my Forge World original Epic buildings. I doubt they will sell. I am asking more than most people's hobby budget. I will need a collector to move the lot.

        47 odd Epic pieces sold.

More importantly, Jack the Marine called. A guy within his gaming group died. His widow was trying to unload his stuff. Because I am closer to her, Jack asked if I would help. It took about a week to get it scheduled. By then serval others had stopped by. His WWII gamers took all the Flames of War, Bolt Action, and terrain. They gave her 500. His best friend took his Star Wars and left her with 100. Another took the GW stuff. One gentleman gave her 400 for his paints, Testors.
So what was left when I got there. Next to nothing of value to me. Mostly 1/72 plastic, kits, and 15mm Tanks out the ass.  I priced everything else. There were serval nuggets left. She had a shoe box full of Star Wars Micro armor figures. I valued it pieced out at over a grand. There were some resin buildings and 1/72 Nam kits at 50. A bunch of train buildings at 90.
I bought the flock, 1/72 Sioux and 7th Cav, and FoW INF bases.

Lesson

I would never tell you not to buy shit. Don't stock pile kits. Don't shell kits from their boxes. If there is shit you have not touched in years, sell it.  Assume your wife will know nothing. When you die, she will be eaten with grief and overwhelmed with all the shit you bought.

Your gaming bros will circle like sharks. They will cheat your wife. Your best mate will be the first to cherry pick. None will not be much of any help. If anything like this wife's experience, your gaming mate will try to smash.

The dude had 11 shoe boxes of 15mm WWII tank kits out of the boxes. Some bagged, some not. He had 1/72 plastic dudes out of the box in plastic boxes, all labeled. There were 18 of those. 1/35 airplane kits and tank kits out of the plastic wrap, but in the box. Boxes and boxes of half broken, missing parts of WWII armor. Collectable cars from NiB to half smashed. None of it with the value of please make me an offer.

                                                    Label all your stuff.

                                                    Be organized and neat.

                                                    Somewhere leave instructions on selling.

Try to put a value on your armies

Do not count on your mate helping out.

Epic Times 1st monthly game day

At NEEAT this past June, We all decided that the PA group should have a monthly Epic day also. A poll was taken for which Saturday in August and another for location. The 2nd was selected and 6 Feet Under the location.

4 players showed up. I was the only one with a single army. The others had 2 with them. We had Traitor Guard, Eldar Titans, Sisters, Squats, Orks, Nids, and Squats. Kal and myself got 3 games in. Shawn and Darius 2.

I ran Traitor guard with Garrisoning Malcadors and dual Disciples.

Game 1. Kal's Eldar Titans. I took a beating. Kal was breaking or smoking a detachment every activation. Lance and Marcos were chewing me up. I put serval titans in the foam but lack staying power. 4 - 0 Blitz, T&H, TSNP, BTS

Game 2. Shawn's Nids. Another loss, turn one my Malcadors broke and never came back. I failed every SC reroll. Not activating hurt. 2 - 0. T&H, TSNP.

Game 3. Darius' Orks. A win! A win given to me by Darius' dice. He was failing activations, would roll 20 dice and get a single hit, could buy a save, and bounced in engagements.
