Más francés Base and Paint your shit Part III

Like it says. You spend a fortune in time and money to collect and paint your army. Put some effort into the bases your army stands upon. It always seems that the basing falls into a last half assed effort or no effort at all. If your not creative, cheat. Someone more skilled than yourself has done all the work for you.

French bases!!!!!

Lego is all about some pictures. So here it is. Follow the pictures and have at it! But be smart, there is a part one and two to this.

First up are these two. Paint the circles the dude stands on with these as your base color. Water the paint all the way down to almost a water color transparency.
You can notice the top missing form the Dark Grey 994. That is because "Model Color" blows when it comes to long term value. As you see below the
paint grew chunks.
Look close and you can see dried up bits and clotting type action going on.
The cure. My cure is two steel 6mm balls and a mixture of floor wax and water. First clean the tip out. Next drop the balls in and add the mix and shake.
The top drop is the fix. The bottom an example of model color bullshit.
2nd layer to color match the circles. Only add water to the foundation paint. The red leather is already transparent.
Dudes' circles color matched
Now you hate right! You dip your shit? Yeah I do. And you should too. This shit makes your minis near indestructible. Barring stomping on them, they will never chip or break, ever.
They are line up this way for you to be able to compare pre and post dip.

I don't just throw the bums into the can and then shake them. Don't do it, it is FUBAR. I got me a fancy artist brush and brush the stuff on. Then I go back, using the same brush and soak up the pools and add/remove the dip from different areas.

Let them dry for 24hrs. You will know when they are slick but no longer tacky. Don't spray them if they are tacky. They have a high chance of clouding and the colors will change. Once dry use a flat matte spray. I hit them twice with it.

Apply a watered down wash of the Hull red
Use it to very light with a loaded brush pick out the bricks. Just basically touch each one, only a little. Do not repaint the whole dam brick.
Mix the red leather with a little hull red. Don't water it down, don't add any water. I do this to get that uneven yet uniform looking brink. Go stare at a brick wall and you will see what I am saying. They all look the same, yet individually different.
The left has the mixture watered down. It pools. Porking the bricks, some are way too light and others half ass looking. The one on the right is proper. The bricks are picked out and terra-cotta looking.
Next dry brush with this one. Stay away from the holes the dudes go into.  DO this step before dropping the dudes in. Otherwise you highlight the hole edge and the circle the dude stands on.

Next time I will plant the dudes and paint up the circles to match the base.

Imperial Fists Version 1.2

Imperial Fists V1.2, same Version from AdeptiCon. This time I was asked to field bunkers and Centurions for a play test. Also thrown in are thud guns.

Imperial Fists (NetEA V1.2 - Developmental)
==================================================

DEVASTATOR [350]
4 Devastator units, 2 Bunkers + Trenches, 4 Thudd Gun

DEVASTATOR [350]
4 Devastator units, 2 Bunkers + Trenches, 4 Thudd Gun

CENTURION [425]
4 Devastator Centurion, 2 Land Raider Crusaders

LAND SPEEDERS [200]
5 Land speeder

PREDATORS [250]
4 Annihilator

PREDATORS [250]
4 Destructor

SCOUTS [150]
4 Scout units

FELLBLADE [350]
1 Fellblade

WHIRLWIND BATTERY [300]

TACTICAL [375]
6 Tactical units, Supreme Commander

I used all FW for the bunkers and trenches. My opinion stands, the trenches are too long at (125cm2) 50cm long x 2.5cm wide.

I took Devastor Centurions in Crusader Land Raiders. I just could not get the bums into action. The Gav guns are useless! Flexibility wise they are slow, hard as nails, but not worth the points. You need to buy them Raiders just to give them a chance at seeing action.

I got two games in. First with Dave, Codex marines. Second with Chris, Feral orks. I lost the first and the second was a mess by the end of 3. No result.
Dave had his activations maxed out with the fliers. The rest was standard run of the mill Marines. He did have one hound panning about, but it didn't perform as expected. Dave out generaled the shit out of me. I was scraping for every inch. Total loss.
Chris' Feral Orks are a target rich list. Little shooting comes out of them. They have a nasty stomper detachment that throws out 12BP MW attack every turn. He picked on the bunkers and I left them alone. The fell blade gutted his detachments. It was the MVP.

8 games in with the list, 3-4-1. I play, the list because I have yellow Marines. It is a fun list, and will continue to play it. Whatever is limited or removed from the codex list has no effect on me personally. I get the best results from a list with 2 fell blades.
The bunkers are not to my play style. I do not like the static points created by them. Using them for or in a tourney setting will take a lot of practice.

World Eaters detachment II part one

Another Tactical detachment. Not so many dead marines on these.

The rhino bases have increased to the 40mm round. The 28mm rounds were being completely covered up. (Also they are meant for Dreads and such)Why paint a beautiful base just to only get to see the lip of it?
The initial 4 will remain on the 28s, at this point I want to finish stuff more than go back correcting design issues.

Only two Rhinos and 4 stands. I have been drinking too much beer at night. Time to jump on the wagon and start painting.

It will melt the primer. Soak the high areas. It will flow into the lows. Push it around a bit on the edges  to blend the two.
Just heavy dry brush. Let some of the primer peak thru.

World Eaters Storm Eagles support detachment

A new support detachment, Two Storm Eagles.

If you compare the china forge to the shapeways, their is no comparison. The shapeways are a bitch to paint, lack detail, and are 150% bigger.

World Eaters Bare Metal         = 354
World Eaters Painted               = 30
World Eaters Armor Painted   = 12

Objectives?

What to do with the Wasteland stuff? I am trying to fit it in as I move along with the World Eater project.

These were mounted and very sadly flocked. They seemed half assed. So rebasing was the distraction of the moment.

I should have placed the red 51 above the entry door. blah
